Reflections on Classical Music

Sylvain Chauveau

Reflections on Classical Music, Sylvain Chauveau chav

The main ideas of Frenchman Sylvain Chauveau’s compositions are to stay as close as possible to the abstract beauty of silence, to make sure that each sound committed is absolutely necessary, and to find his own roots within his cultural and personal history. These core ideas lead him in his quest for a truly modern French music, whose trajectory stretches from early 20th century chamber music composers like Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, and Erik Satie, through the discoveries of mid-century ‘Musique Concrète’, followed by the electro-acoustic school, and emerging through post-punk philosophy and a pop culture that embraces short, simple and melodic works. Before the 2003 release of 'Un Autre Dècembre', Chauveau had previously debuted ‘Le Livre Noir du Capitalisme’ in 2000, followed by ‘Nocturne Impalpable’ in 2001, mostly recorded by his sound engineer and friend Joan Cambon, who is his partner in the cinematic avant-rock band Arca. Chauveau is also a member of Ensemble 0 on Creative Sources recordings, an experimental music ensemble.
